I said last time that I hoped to get two more things knocked off my to-do list this week and I've now managed to achieve both of them!

Today, I posted about the final issue of Sonic the Comic on my Sonic blog. It's not truly the end of my journey, as a couple of the creative team for that comic went on to make other things for the Sonic series (both officially and unofficially) that I'm going to talk about. As well as that, there's a French Sonic comic from the 90s that I've always wanted to read and am going to sneak into my blog coverage under the excuse that it counts as part of the wider European Sonic comics, even if it's not StC. But finishing the main comic itself was the bulk of my work, so it feels good to have that done.

As well as that, last night I finished watching the post-game DLC for Resident Evil 8. I've already started watching Resident Evil Requiem, which is the last game I plan to watch right now for the series before I move onto something else on my list. It's too early for me to say what my thoughts are on Requiem, but I obviously have some thoughts on RE8 after finishing it.

Not least because, after watching through eight games whose creations span over almost three decades, RE8 did something that no other game in the series has managed so far:

It managed to scare me.

Now, it wasn't actually anything in the main game that scared me, although this wasn't for lack of trying on their part. This game in particular with each new section you could feel them working through a lot of common horror tropes, almost as if they were looking back at the audience each time and going "Are you scared yet?". To which I'd pat them on the head for trying. This is a very arrogant thing to say, but for my part, a lot of horror tropes don't actually scare me all that much. I'd largely avoided the horror genre growing up, because I didn't like to feel scared, only to one day start looking into it a little more (mostly because of popular horror podcasts that my friends listened to) and be left with the feeling of "Wait, this isn't scary at all!" Nowadays, I enjoy these stories for the story, but not for the scares.

So I was surprised and impressed when the game did manage to scare me with part of its DLC. It wasn't even anything fancy. They basically had a "weeping angels" segment where mannequins that looked like the main character's mother would chase after her the moment she stopped looking at them. You had to stop looking at the mannequins to progress, but each time you could hear them moving behind you and when you turned around to look at them again, you got that moment of seeing them in motion ever so briefly before they came to a halt, which showed exactly how fast they were running after you. And it was pretty fast.

I'm not ashamed to say that I had to pause the video at one point. I think that there's something about knowing it's your choice to doom yourself, but if you don't make that choice, you'll have to stay there looking at something forever until you inevitably mess up and doom yourself anyway that's pretty scary to me.

That was a small part of the overall game. Heck, it was even a small part of the DLC itself. But it'll stick with me the most out of everything.

Beyond that, I had a good time with this one, as I have done for the last two games as well. It set out with a story that it wanted to tell and while in many ways it continued the story of the previous game, it was also perfectly able to stand alone without any further context for the most part. The visuals, different settings and various bosses were all fun. And I gained a new fictional crush with the Duke. Part of me doesn't want to look up more about him, because the mystery adds to the appeal.

I think that's about all that I have to say about this one? But I'm glad that I'm continuing to enjoy this series after it was starting to lose me a bit with the middle games.

A Youtuber I follow (jacksepticeyes' gf - could never watch him bc he's one of the loud ones while she's usually chill and always approaches all games in good faith) does/did Resi lets plays and I recently watched her Requiem playthrough.

I'm relatively sure that you will know immediately which parts of it I liked best, once you get to them.

Also I'm just now realizing idk if she posted the Resi8 DLC bc I think I never watched that one. Maybe I skipped and then forgot about it or she kept it as a Twitch only thing? Huh.
(I have recentlyish watched a lore video that put the games in chronological order and retold the overarching plot though.)
I gotta admit I was sliiightly underwhelmed by the hot big vampire mommy everyone online was so into at the time. Like. I expected to see more of her and have her size emphasized more etc. Aside from that I don't remember much of any of the pre-Requiem playthroughs I've seen bc lbr, the plot of Resi kind of doesn't really matter, does it? XD'

PEACHES!! <3
I've admittedly not been playing NA as regularly as I used to recently but her, ninja cat, the new camera kitty and one (1) random normie red and white cat still elude me to this day. I don't even have photos of the normie and camera kitties yet!

The Duke was the merchant guy, right? I think I liked his jest for life and the youtube girlie I watched also was always delighted to see him :D

"who rly plays this for the plot and not just the vibes - but the creator obviously DOES care a lot about the lore" reminds me of Death Stranding lol

Peaches, our elusive queen <3

I mean, Death Stranding is by Kojima so. I assume he's not taking it too seriously. But the wild stuff is played pretty genuine, so I got the feeling that everyone involved in the writing was feeling what they wrote there, at least with the first game lol
