Jun. 5th, 2026 11:25 amI didn't say it in yesterday's post, but after procrastinating on it for a couple of weeks, I finally finished my post of the Sonic Sunday Strips. I'd ended up turning it into a bigger thing than it needed to be in my head, mostly because I was daunted by how much people seemed to want me to cover them. Given that the post has received less traction than even what my little Sonic blog usually receives, I can't shake the feeling that this post wasn't what people wanted from me, but regardless, it's done now.
When it came down to it, while I liked the Sunday Strips fine, I didn't feel like there was enough in them for me personally that I wanted to turn them into a whole series on the blog instead of a single post giving an overview of them. The thing that I enjoy about Sonic comics is the unique characters each one adds into them in order to carve their own niche into the franchise. The Sonic Sunday Strips didn't have that, instead almost entirely being short, silly Sonic vs. Robotnik antics, with Tails appearing for the final story, but no other characters. I know that for a lot of people, this is exactly what they want from a Sonic comic, but for me it's the total opposite. I was honest about that in the post.
However, I do think that it's wonderful that due to the dedication of fans and one of the artists from the series itself these comics were archived so that I could read them at all. They were regarded largely as lost media until 2016 and two of the comic strips still haven't been found yet. From within the Sonic fanbase I often see a lot of negativity about the fandom, but I think that the efforts this community can go to in order to preserve something that otherwise would've been lost to time should be celebrated, which I also said on the post.
With the Sonic Sunday Strips done, I now only have three more comics to cover before I've met the initial goal that I had for my Sonic blog. I'm hoping that this won't take too long to achieve.
