May. 23rd, 2026 11:12 pmI wanted to try to keep this journal somewhat positive, but bank holiday weekends are basically a nightmare for me and have been in every job that I've ever had, so my absence and exhaustion for the last few days stems from that. Of course I know that I'm lucky to have a job at all and I'm certainly a lot luckier than I was in my last job, which was a great many times more stressful than the one I have now, but even knowing all of this, I'm telling myself that it's okay to feel wiped out.
Since last time, I've ticked one more Animorphs book off my list. It was a Marco one and I do like him, but once again I found myself more focused on what Cassie was up to in his story than Marco himself. Having realised that none of them can talk to anyone about anything they're going through, Cassie has taken it upon herself to become the group's therapist, even though she knows that none of them want her to do that and will be resistent towards her and she obviously knows that she isn't qualified to do this, but she's all they have. Because of that, I was once again very irritated when Jake outright told her to shut up. I keep gritting my teeth and saying that I need to wait until the end of the series to probably judge Jake (or more likely, about three months after finishing the series, once the glow of the ending has worn off and I can look at it as a whole), but part of me suspects that this character will always rub me the wrong way. All it would take would be for him not not go against his girlfriend in almost every situation. I don't feel like I'm asking for too much there. But I digress.
That aside, another factor of this series is that there are a bunch of side-stories as well as the main books. Now, the main books are all easily numbered, but there's no official guide for where to place the side-stories in the series that I've been able to find. Fan opinions on them seem to vary, some people say that you don't need to bother with them for the most part, but I want to have the full experience and each of the side-stories are called back on in the main books enough that I personally don't think they should be skipped out. I found a guide about where to place them and although there were some disagreements with the guide in the comments on it, so far I've found that it hasn't let me down.
Anyway, I bring all of this up, because for the first time I found that I didn't need the guide. At the end of book 35, it literally said that the story will be continued in "Visser", which is the next side-story on my list. So it was nice for the series itself to directly tell me what to move onto next. I've already started Visser and I'm enjoying it so far, but at only a quarter of the way through the book, now isn't the time to talk about it in any great detail.
As an unrelated side note, my icon here is of a character from a mobile game called "The Arcana" that I'm not actually very familiar with. I tried it briefly for a friend who liked it, but quickly realised that it wasn't for me. Regardless, the character in my icon, Portia, was the one love interest who I did really like in the game and her annoyed expression here is so fitting for many situations that I continue to use it, despite not caring for the game itself. I should at some point get a version of it where you can see her expression more closely though.
