Time for a little update on what I've been reading and writing:
With reading, I've gotten through three more Animorphs books since the last time that I posted about it here. I was feeling pretty good about that, but then made the mistake of looking up where I was in the grand scheme of things, only to learn that I'm just a little over halfway through the whole series... But I can only hope that the next half won't take me as long to read through as the first half did, especially since I'm wrapping up other projects that will give me more time to focus on reading them.
The three books that I read were focused on my three favourites of the main cast: Rachel, Cassie & Tobias, which might account for why I was able to get through them so quickly. As usual, Tobias is shaken by his lack of a consistent identity (though his story ended with him and Rachel finally sharing their first kiss, yay!), Rachel's story leaves me worried for her eventual fate and Cassie's story shows a highly-skilled person who is wracked by self-doubt and constantly being put in situations where she has to go against her moral code. And I don't say any of this out of harsh judgement - the series is ultimately about the horrors of turning children into soldiers, so I would expect nothing less from its conflicts.
On a similar note, I should've had more faith in regards to my previous complaints about Jake. Because in the last few books I've read, the characters themselves have been starting to feel the unease about him that I've been feeling for a while now. Tobias even directly says that he's unsure if he can trust Jake now compared to at the beginning of the series. Again, by no means do I think Jake is evil or anything, but I feel better knowing that his descent into the leader who has to shoulder everything and its negative affects on him is something that the narrative has in hand.
One final note for now is that I'm very close to being officially out of the 90s with these books and into the 2000s! I had a feeling that was the case, because suddenly there were more references that I was familiar with. Marco mentioned liking both Powerpuff Girls and South Park and I was like "Hey wait, those were on TV when I was a kid!" Though admittedly I only saw the odd episode of Powerpuff Girls (it seemed good though!) and never bothered with South Park.
For writing, with my Sonic blog I've still been stumped about how I want to approach the Sonic Sunday Strips. So when I got an ask to see if I'd write a Post-Mortem for Princess Alucion I jumped on that instead. Post-Mortems are a series of very casual character analysis that I write following the final appearance of a character. They provide a quick look at the character's appeearances in the source material, if there were any future plans for them that never saw the light of day and what I personally would've loved to have seen for them if I had the wheel. Because Alucion only appeared in a single issue, hers didn't take long to write.
While writing it, I realised that I could use this delightful image of Alucion grinning at the prospect of tossing her enemies into lava as an icon here. Now, at some point I will hit the 15 icon limit and then have to make some choices about what to keep or not. So it might not be an icon here forever, but for now I like it just fine.
Of course, now that I'm finished with that, it's back to being stumped about the Sonic Sunday Strips. My ideas right now are either to abandon the "live-blogging" aspect of the blog and read all the way through the Sunday Strips to see if that helps me figure things out or else put a pin in it for now and move ahead to the next comic on my list, so I don't lose momentum, as the next comic will be much easier to cover. We'll see how that pans out soon, I hope.
For other writing, I wrote two more kinkmeme fills last week. Both of them short, but that's still a little something about their ship that the requester didn't have before. In these cases, neither of them have reached their original requesters so far, but when you're filling older prompts, the dice-roll often does fall on the requester not finding it. Maybe someone someday will read it and enjoy it though.

It is a shame that the original requesters haven't seemed to find it, but hopefully someone finds it. And if you enjoyed writing it, that's really the main thing!

And yes, that's my thoughts exactly! I'm only picking prompts that I'll enjoy writing so that someone always gets something out of it, even if it's just me. :D
